Lulumahu Falls- an Amazing Waterfall Hike on Oahu
I was always more drawn to Mauniwili falls because of the danger of the cliff jump and the borderline illegality. When I write it like that being an adventure junkie sounds like a dysfunction. Anyways, I had heard Lulumahu was a short hike and I had never got around to it. On the day we went we ignored flash flood warnings, and while we got away with it, we did have to kick off our shoes and wade through some flooding. This made the hike take much longer and also made it much more interesting. It’s not an ideal barefoot hike because there’s a lot of gravel and small stones at times, but it’s also not a great shoes hike because there’s so much stream crossing. Choose your own adventure, especially with a number of trails and routes you can take to the waterfall. The reward for going on such a wet day was a very heavy waterfall. It was pretty epic and offered a refreshing dip for one of our companions. You can get lost at night, so make sure to head out early. Or you can use Alltrails which is something I would recommend for this hike anyways because of the switching trails. So yes, it’s a short hike, but actually very fun and rewarding, and perfect as an add on to a full day adventure itinerary.
