An off the beaten path hiking trail in West Oahu

Waianae is full of unmarked, unknown, and unlisted ridge hikes and this is one of my favorites. There is no clear trail to start, and the climb up the ridge is a bit of a scramble, but once on the ridge the going gets easier. On the way to the peak there is some climbing, but an athletic dog can find it's way to the top. Keep your eye out for wild mountain goats. You'll find a pillbox as you approach the top that offers some much needed shade and a beautiful viewing spot. What's unique about this view is seeing all the farm land in the back of the valleys. A lot of hikes offer views of neighborhoods but at the top of Mauna Kuwale you'll see a lot of local farms, like @kahumanaorganicfarm which is special for me personally. Definitely better for an afternoon hike because it's not super long and you'd rather be on the ridge later in the day rather than climbing when the sun is at it's peak. Conditions are usually pretty good to do this almost any day year round. That's the beauty of Waianae.
