My Top Secret Hiking Trail on Oahu

Of the 10 highest peaks on Oahu, 9 of them are in the Waianae mountain range, not the Ko'olau. Most of them are unknown, off trail, or even inaccessible. Hot, dry, exposed, and at times treacherous, these mountains are off the beaten path and you won't run into many other hikers on your journey. Kamaile'unu ridge is hidden in plain site right off Farrington and goes from 0 to 3200 feet quick, up to the third highest peak on the island. Expect to suffer in the sun with lots of climbing sections and few opportunities for shade. There are a few stretches that look dangerous as you approach, but are very doable when you get to them. The challenge is more physical. It's a long climb up and down. But the views from the top are stellar, and what makes it worth it is later looking up at the mountain as you drive by and knowing you've been to the top.
