Hiking Moanalua Ridge to the Haiku Stairs (Stairway to Heaven)
Everyone wants to know, are they really removing the Haiku Stairs? Yes, the iconic stairway to heaven is getting removed. Feel how you want to feel about it, I'm just glad I was there before it happened. Does it really matter though? The stairs might be removed but the iconic landmark remains and the trail from Moanalua ridge will stay open. The attraction wasn't just the chance for a cool picture, as a lot of the time the view is obscured by clouds anyway, it was about doing something challenging. The hike is long, weather unpredictable, and the ridge section has one of the most challenging rope sections of any hike on the island. It's steep, long, and when wet can be treacherous. Many hikers are too intimidated and turn back. Be safe, but don't be soft. Do it in spikes, do it barefoot, just make sure you do it. Stairs or no stairs, this hike will remain a major bucket list for adventure seekers on Oahu.
